Sometimes we all need support. Life today is challenging and our problems can seem overwhelming and without solution. Counselling aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable. My aim is to offer a warm, non-judgemental space from which you can explore your issues, develop greater self-awareness and be supported in finding the best way forward to a happier and more balanced life.

As an experienced BACP registered counsellor, psychotherapist and trained EMDR practitioner I work with adults with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, bereavement, PTSD and complex trauma. I am also a qualified cognitive behavioural therapist, an approach that explores the thoughts, feelings and behaviour that are at the root of many of life's issues.

I adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework. This includes attending regular supervision to ensure I am practising ethically, safely and with the best interests of my clients at all times.

Counselling

Support from others is vital to our emotional well-being. However, sometimes we may find ourselves 'stuck' in a rut or struggling with sensitive issues that could benefit from a neutral professional approach. Counselling sessions are entirely confidential and offer a safe space for you to explore your problems without judgement.

In early childhood we are constantly learning from our environment. As a result, it is natural to learn patterns of behaviour from those around us during this formative time.  Influences in childhood and challenging life experiences can have a lasting impact. We may develop ways of coping that become self-limiting. It takes courage and motivation to really explore one’s self but we can change the way we experience ourselves. Counselling helps us to make sense of our emotions and to change our negative thoughts and behaviours.

As a therapist I draw on a number of counselling therapies and tailor my approach to the individual, please read on to learn a little more…

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

The idea behind CBT is that our thoughts and behaviours have an effect on each other. That by changing the way we think or behave in a situation, we can change the way we feel about life.

 Bereavement

Bereavement is the time we spend adjusting to loss. There is no standard time limit and there is no right or wrong way to feel during the bereavement period.

Client-Centred Therapy

The counsellor or psychotherapist in this approach works to understand an individual's experience from their point of view. The counsellor must positively value the client as a person.
